Truck tractors

Mercedes-Benz Actros 6×4

Our horses are Actros 6×4 truck tractors. Three axles with two driven, which is what a fully freighted superlink needs to pull heavy loads over the mountain passes and gravel approaches that come with mill, quarry and site work.

They are specified for load-hauling rather than long-distance line haul, maintained to the manufacturer’s service schedule, and kept in roadworthy condition as a matter of routine rather than as a reaction.

Trailers

Tandem superlink flatdecks

SAMTOR and ANDER tandem flatdeck trailers in superlink configuration: a shorter front link and a longer rear link, giving roughly eighteen metres of usable deck behind one truck tractor.

An open deck is deliberate. It can be loaded from either side by forklift or from above by crane, which is how bricks, timber packs, steel and granite blocks are actually handled at the yards we collect from.

Tandem front link + tandem rear link (superlink)
Front link deck
Approximately 6 m
Rear link deck
Approximately 12 m
Total usable deck
Approximately 18 m
Typical payload
Up to about 34 tonnes, subject to axle loading and legal limits

On every vehicle

Securing kit travels with the truck

Not held at a depot to be fetched when someone remembers. If the load needs it, it is already on board.

Ratchet straps

Rated webbing straps for palletised, banded and bagged freight.

Chains and binders

Hard restraint for steel, granite blocks and anything that can cut webbing.

Corner plates

Spread strap tension across pallet and pack edges so the top course survives the trip.

Tarpaulins

Full sheeting for cement, treated timber and anything that cannot get wet.

Cargo nets

Containment over bagged loads so nothing works loose off an open deck.

Dunnage and chocks

Hardwood under the load and chocks at the faces to stop movement in transit.

Monitoring & security

Your load is never simply out of sight

Freight risk in South Africa is real, and “we will call the driver” is not a security policy. Every vehicle carries live satellite tracking and four cameras.

That means position is available on demand, deviations are visible rather than discovered afterwards, and there is a record of how the load was handled at both ends. Combined with Goods-in-Transit cover, it is the difference between a transport supplier and a transport risk.

  • Live satellite trackingFleet-wide, on every vehicle, live rather than a report at the end of the trip.
  • Four cameras per vehicleCoverage of the road, the cab and the load, giving an evidence trail if a claim is ever raised.
  • Goods-in-Transit insuranceEvery load carried under GIT cover. Certificates supplied before you release freight if your procurement requires it.
  • Planned stopsRest and refuelling planned rather than improvised, which is where most freight risk is actually created.
